Overview#
Porting moves a phone number from your current provider to TradesWork, so customers keep calling the number they know. It's free and usually takes 1–2 weeks for ordinary local numbers (toll-free and complex ports take longer). Calls keep working at your old provider until the moment the number switches, so there's no downtime as long as you keep paying them until the port completes.
Before you start#
You need the Owner or Admin role.
Have ready:
The list of numbers to move (up to 50 per request).
The account number with your current carrier, and the port-out PIN if they use one.
The name and service address on that account, exactly as the carrier has them. The ZIP must match.
A recent bill from the carrier (PDF or photo, under 1 MB).
The email of the person authorized on the account; they'll e-sign the authorization.
Getting a PIN: AT&T: myAT&T › Profile › Wireless passcode or Transfer PIN. Verizon: My Verizon › Account › Number Transfer PIN. T-Mobile: dial 611 or use the app. Landlines: call the carrier and ask for a "port-out PIN".
Steps#
Open Settings › Phones › Phone Numbers, Call Recording & Texting and scroll to Bring your numbers (port-in).
Leaving ServiceTitan? Open Leaving ServiceTitan? What to enter for the exact values (also below).
Fill in:
Numbers to bring over (one per line).
Current carrier (for example ServiceTitan, Comcast, RingCentral).
Account number (ServiceTitan: your Tenant ID).
Port-out PIN (if your carrier uses one). It's sent to the carrier only and never shown again.
Authorized person and Their email. They'll get the authorization to e-sign.
Business name on the account, Service address, City, State, ZIP.
Earliest switch date (optional).
Latest bill from the current carrier (PDF or photo, under 1 MB).
Press Request transfer.
Watch Transfers below the form. Each request shows its status:
Sent, being reviewed
Waiting for your signature (check your email): the authorized person must e-sign.
Approved, moving on the date shown
Needs something from you: usually the bill or a signature.
Done: calls and texts now come to TradesWork
Rejected by the old carrier, with the reason.
When it's done, the numbers appear under 1. Get a number and ring per your ringing settings. Only then cancel your old service.
Leaving ServiceTitan: what to enter#
Current carrier: ServiceTitan.
Account number: your ServiceTitan Tenant ID (ServiceTitan shows it under Settings › Integrations › API Application Access).
Numbers: take a screenshot of ServiceTitan's Settings › Phone Numbers and list every main and tracking number you want to keep.
Address/ZIP: the business address on your ServiceTitan account; the ZIP must match.
Bill: download your latest ServiceTitan billing invoice before your final date and upload it here.
Settings that change this#
Settings › Phones › Phone Numbers, Call Recording & Texting: ringing and business hours decide who answers once the port completes.
Texting registration: ported numbers join your company's texting registration. See Register for business texting (A2P 10DLC).
Tips#
Submit the port in your first week of switching. ServiceTitan (or your old carrier) keeps routing calls until it completes.
Meanwhile, use a new TradesWork number and forward your old number to it at your current carrier if you want calls in TradesWork right away.
Tracking numbers keep their number but not their campaign link. After the move, ask support to tie each tracking number to its campaign.
Troubleshooting#
Rejected: account number or PIN wrong → the old carrier didn't recognize them. → Copy them from the bill (ServiceTitan: the Tenant ID) and submit a new request. The old one stays for reference.
Rejected: name, address or ZIP doesn't match → the details must match the carrier's records exactly. → Copy them from the bill and submit a new request.
"Needs something from you" → the carrier wants a document (usually the bill) or a signature. → Upload the bill on a new request, or check the authorized person's email for the signature request.
The status hasn't moved in days → TradesWork re-checks open transfers with the carriers when you open the page (at most every 10 minutes) and once an hour in the background. → Reload the page later. Requests marked "handled by TradesWork support" move when support records the carrier's answer.
Toll-free number is slow → toll-free ports go through a different process and take longer. → Wait, and keep the old service active.
FAQ#
Will I lose calls during the switch? No, as long as the old service stays active until the port completes. Calls ring there until the moment the number moves.
Does porting cost anything? No. After it moves, the number has the normal monthly fee.
Can I port more than 50 numbers? Yes, in several requests of up to 50 each.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
ServiceTitan's documented port-out needs your Tenant ID as the account number, a screenshot of Settings › Phone Numbers, the ZIP on the account and a billing invoice. The form asks for exactly those. Call recordings stay with ServiceTitan; download any you need before your access ends.
