Overview#
TradesWork has two kinds of template. Kits (Estimate Templates) are good/better/best item lists for common jobs, used from the office job page or the Field app. Proposal templates go further: up to four options with customer summaries, a recommended option, energy savings, rebates and brochures, used by technicians in the Field app and for replacement proposals. Both store items, not prices: options are priced from the published pricebook on the day they're used.
Before you start#
Everyone can view kits and proposal templates.
Creating and editing kits needs pricebook.write (Owner, Admin).
Creating and editing proposal templates needs proposals.manage (Owner, Admin, Dispatcher).
Using a kit on a job needs estimates.write.
Steps#
Create a kit#
Go to Pricebook › Estimate Templates and click New kit.
Enter Name (for example "No heat"), Job type (or Any), Category, Notes for the team, and tick Active.
Fill the Good, Better and Best cards: Option name, What the customer gets, and up to 8 items with quantities. Leave a tier empty to skip it.
Click Save kit.
Use a kit on a job (office)#
On the job's Estimates card, find Start from a kit.
Pick from Choose a kit… (each entry shows its tier prices; kits for this job type are listed first).
Click Create options.
Create a proposal template#
Go to Pricebook › Proposal Templates and click New template, or pick a kit under Start from a pricebook kit and click Create template to copy its tiers.
Enter Name (for example "Furnace replacement"), Job type, Notes for the team, and tick Active (technicians see it).
For each option (up to 4): name, Recommended (one at most), What the customer gets, up to 8 items, Energy savings / year ($) and How it's estimated, and tick the Rebates and Brochures & spec sheets that apply.
Click Save template. Technicians get it the next time their app refreshes.
Use a proposal template (Field app)#
On the appointment, open Estimates › Start from a template.
Pick the template. Options, rebates and brochures fill in at today's published prices.
Adjust and create the options.
Settings that change this#
Pricebook › Services & Materials: deactivating an item removes it from kits and templates when used.
Pricebook › Proposal Templates › Rebate programs and Brochures & spec sheets: what templates can attach.
Tips#
Build kits for your ten most common calls first. They cover most estimates.
Start proposal templates from a kit, then add the customer-facing parts.
Mark one option recommended in the template so every technician leads with the same choice.
Troubleshooting#
"There's already a kit called X." / "There's already a template called X." → names must be unique → rename it.
"Add at least one option with items." → every option is empty → add items to at least one option.
"Recommend one option at most" → untick the extra Recommended.
"That kit has no active items." → its items were deactivated → edit the kit.
"That kit has no items yet." → add items before creating a template from it.
I can't find New kit → you need Owner or Admin.
FAQ#
Can I delete a kit or template? No. Untick Active to hide it.
Can the office apply a proposal template to a job? Not from the job page. Use a kit, or a replacement proposal, in the office. Proposal templates are applied in the Field app.
If I change a price, do templates update? Yes. Templates hold items, so the next use picks up the new price. Estimates already created keep their prices.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
Same: templates of grouped pricebook items with good/better/best tiers.
Different: TradesWork splits quick kits from rich proposal templates (with rebates, brochures and savings). Neither stores prices.
Where it lived: ServiceTitan Pricebook › Estimate Templates; TradesWork Pricebook › Estimate Templates and Pricebook › Proposal Templates.
