Overview#

Route playback replays one truck's day, or one tech's phone if they have no truck. You see each trip as a line on the map, every stop, and which stops were at a job site. A scrubber lets you step through the day minute by minute. Use it to answer "where was the truck at 2:15?" or to check a timesheet.

Before you start#

  • You need a role that can see positions: Owner, Admin, Dispatcher or Customer service.

  • The truck must exist in Settings › Integrations › GPS, or the tech must have shared their phone location at least once.

  • You can only replay days still inside your retention period. Older positions are deleted. The default is 13 months.

  • Off-duty privacy applies here too. Hidden positions are left out of the replay and out of the trip lines.

Steps#

  1. Open playback.

    • In the left nav, go to Dispatch › Tools › Route Playback (/fleet/playback).

    • Or click Route playback under a truck on the Fleet map. That opens the same page with the truck already picked.

  2. Pick what to replay with Vehicle.

    • Trucks are listed by name, with the default tech after a dot. Inactive trucks say "(inactive)".

    • Techs sharing their phone with no truck are listed as "Name · phone".

  3. Pick the Day. It starts on today in your company time zone.

  4. Read the Day summary card:

    • Driven: total miles.

    • Driving: total time moving.

    • Idling: time stopped with the engine running.

  5. Replay the day.

    • Click the play button. A dark dot moves along the route.

    • Drag the Time of day slider to jump to a moment. The time and speed show to the right.

    • Click pause to stop.

  6. Look at one trip.

    • In the Trips table, click a row. That trip stays bright, the others dim, and the slider jumps to its start.

    • Click the same row again to show all trips.

  7. Check the Stops table.

    • Arrived is when the truck got there ("Start of day" for the first position).

    • Stayed is how long. "Still there" means it has not left.

    • Place links to the job when the stop was within 150 m of a job site. The truck's home base shows as a label. Other stops show their coordinates.

Settings that change this#

  • Settings › Integrations › GPS › Vehicles: the Home base name and coordinates mark the shop or a take-home address as a known stop.

  • Settings › Integrations › GPS › Privacy and retention: Off-duty privacy, Working hours, Working days and Keep positions (months).

Tips#

  • A trip starts when the truck moves at 5 km/h or more (or the ignition turns on). It ends after the truck has been stopped for 5 minutes, or when no position arrives for 15 minutes.

  • Very short moves under 200 m do not count as trips.

  • Set a home base on every vehicle. Stops there then read as "Shop" (or whatever you named it) instead of raw coordinates.

  • Use playback from a timesheet. GPS flags on a timesheet have a Map button that opens playback for that day.

Troubleshooting#

  • "No vehicles yet". Cause: no vehicles and no phone-tracked techs. Fix: add a vehicle in Settings › Integrations › GPS.

  • "No positions this day". Cause: nothing was recorded, or everything was outside working hours with off-duty privacy on. Fix: pick another day, or check the tracker's Last seen.

  • "Positions outside working hours are hidden (off-duty privacy)." Cause: some points fell outside working hours. Fix: none needed. Positions while the tech was en route to or working an appointment always show.

  • A stop at a customer's house is not linked to the job. Cause: the job address has no map position yet. The Day summary says how many job sites "have no map position yet". Fix: wait for geocoding, or add a fence for that address in Settings › Integrations › GPS › Geofences.

  • "No trips". Cause: the truck did not move enough to count as a trip. Fix: none needed.

FAQ#

Can I replay a day from two years ago? Only if your retention is set that long. Positions older than Keep positions (months) are deleted every day.

Does playback show job geofence circles? Not yet. The live map and the Arrivals page draw them. Playback matches stops to jobs within 150 m instead.

Does it work without a map? Yes. If map tiles are off, the trips and stops tables still work and the slider shows coordinates.

Can I export the route? There is no export from this page today.

Coming from ServiceTitan#

  • In ServiceTitan, breadcrumb history usually came from your GPS provider's own site or the Fleet Pro add-on.

  • In TradesWork, playback is inside the app and stops are matched to your jobs automatically.

  • Different: off-duty privacy hides positions outside working hours from playback too, which matters for take-home trucks.
