Overview#

TradesWork has a search box on each main list rather than one search box for everything. The top bar always has links to Customers and Jobs, and the green button (Book job in the default look) starts a new job with a customer lookup. On the dispatch board you can change days and close panels from the keyboard. A single "search everything" box isn't available yet.

Before you start#

  • What you can find depends on your role. For example, technicians use the field app, and Viewers can search but not edit.

  • The names in the top bar follow your look (for example Clients in the Jobber-style look). See Switch the look: ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber or FieldEdge style.

Steps#

Find a customer#

  1. Click Customers in the top bar.

  2. Type part of a name, phone number or email in Search by name, phone or email and press Search (or Enter).

  3. Click the customer's name to open their record. Press Clear to go back to the full list (most recent first).

Find a customer while booking#

  1. Click Book job in the top bar (the label depends on your look, for example New job or New work order).

  2. Under Existing customer?, type a name, phone or email and press Search.

  3. Pick the customer from the list (up to 8 matches show). If nobody matches, fill in the new customer form below.

Find a price book item#

  1. Open Pricebook › Services & Materials in the left menu.

  2. Type in Search name, code or category and press Enter.

Find a job#

  1. Click Jobs in the top bar to see the job list.

  2. Or open the customer first: their record lists their jobs.

Dispatch board keys#

On the dispatch board (when you aren't typing in a field):

KeyWhat it does
Left arrowPrevious day
Right arrowNext day
TJump to today
EscClose the job or technician side panel
Enter (on a selected appointment card)Open the appointment

Settings that change this#

  • Settings › Your Account › Appearance: changes the names in the top bar and menu.

Tips#

  • Phone search matches part of the number as it's stored, so the last four digits are usually the quickest. A full number typed with different punctuation may not match.

  • The customer list shows up to 50 matches. If you get too many, type more of the name.

  • When a call comes in, the incoming-call panel pops the caller's record for you, so you rarely need to search during a call.

  • Use your browser's own find (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to find text on a long page such as Settings.

Troubleshooting#

  • No matches → spelling, punctuation in the phone number, or the customer was imported under a company name. → Try part of the name, the last four digits of the phone, or the email.

  • The arrow keys don't change the day → the cursor is in a text field. → Click an empty part of the board first.

  • I don't see Customers or Jobs in the top bar → the window is narrow (the top links hide on small screens) or your role can't read them. → Widen the window or use the left menu.

FAQ#

Is there a search-everything box like ServiceTitan's? Not yet. Search from the list you need (Customers, Pricebook, Jobs) or from the booking page.

Can I search by address? The customer search looks at name, phone and email. Open the customer to see their locations.

Coming from ServiceTitan#

ServiceTitan's top-bar search finds customers, jobs and invoices from one box. In TradesWork, records are reached from the top bar's Customers and Jobs links, each with its own search. The words follow ServiceTitan's (Customer, Location, Job), so what you search for is called the same thing.
