Overview#
When a customer says yes by phone or email, the office records it with Mark sold. Selling an option bills its lines and dismisses the other options in the same proposal. You decide whether the work happens on this job or later on a new follow-up job, and you can change your mind until work or payment makes that unsafe. Options the customer turns down are dismissed so they stop showing on the customer's link.
Before you start#
Selling, dismissing and changing timing needs estimates.write (Owner, Admin, Dispatcher, Technician on their own jobs).
The job's invoice must be open (not paid or void) to add sold work to it.
For commercial customers, a not-to-exceed limit can block a sale that goes over it.
Steps#
Mark an option sold#
On the job, find the open option the customer chose.
Type the approver in Approved by (name).
Choose Do it on this job (default) or Later (new job).
Click Mark sold.
Results:
The option shows Sold · approved by {name} with the time.
Other open options in the proposal are dismissed.
Do it on this job: the lines are added to this job's invoice (created if needed).
Later (new job): a new job is created for the same customer and location, named after the option, with the description "Sold on job #N (estimate #X) to be done later." The lines go on that job's invoice. Schedule it like any job.
The estimate follow-up board moves the card to Won.
Change when the work happens#
On a sold option, the timing row shows Done on this job or Later · job #N (to schedule).
Click Schedule it for later to move the work to a new follow-up job (its lines come off this invoice), or Do the work now to move it back. Confirm.
Moving it back cancels the follow-up job's open visits, and the follow-up job itself if nothing else is on its invoice.
Dismiss an option#
On an open option, click Dismiss and confirm.
It stays on the job for the record but disappears from the One Link. When every option in a proposal is dismissed, the follow-up board marks the opportunity Lost and asks why.
Record a win from the follow-up board#
On Follow Up › Estimates, drag the card to Won (or open it).
Click Approved on the option the customer chose. It's sold as "now" work, recorded by you.
Settings that change this#
Settings › Marketing › Follow-Up Sequences: automatic follow-up texts stop when an option is sold or every option is dismissed.
Settings › Operations › Branches › Rules: PO holds on invoices for commercial customers.
Tips#
Record the person who approved, not yourself. It's what the customer sees as "Approved by".
Use Later (new job) for big installs. The service call's invoice stays small and can be collected today.
Dismiss options the customer clearly declined so the One Link only shows what's still on the table.
Troubleshooting#
"Enter the name of the person approving" → type at least two characters in Approved by (name).
"This option was dismissed. Create a new estimate instead." → dismissed options can't be sold.
"A sold estimate can't be dismissed." → change the timing or refund instead.
"The job's invoice is closed. Reopen it before adding sold work." → the invoice is paid or void → sell with Later (new job).
"This visit's work is finished, so it can't move to a later job." → the work is done on this job.
"Work on follow-up job #N has started, so it stays there." → the follow-up job is underway.
"Payments on that invoice already cover this work. Refund first, or leave it where it is." → money was taken against those lines.
Customer service can't see Mark sold → CSRs don't have estimates.write → ask a dispatcher.
FAQ#
Can I unsell an option? No. Selling is final. You can move the work between now and later, or refund and credit as needed.
Does Mark sold capture a signature? No. It records the approver's name. For a signature, present in the Field app or have the customer approve on the One Link.
Do the other options come back if I change timing? No. They stay dismissed.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
Same: selling an estimate adds its items to the invoice; unsold estimates can be dismissed.
Different: you choose "now" or "later" when selling, and "later" creates the follow-up job for you. Selling one option dismisses its siblings automatically.
Where it lived: ServiceTitan's Sell and Dismiss on the job's Estimates tab; the same buttons on each option card in TradesWork.
