Overview#
Scan to part turns a photo of a data plate, a part's label or the failed part itself into matching parts from your supplier catalogs and price book. For each match you see the price-book price, how many are on your truck and which warehouse has it. Then add it to an estimate, or request it. Nothing is ever ordered from here.
Before you start#
The Scan to part tool must be on (Settings › AI › AI assists, Field app) and you need tech_ai.use plus price book access.
Reading photos needs AI. Without AI, type the model, part number or rating instead: matching still works.
Matches come from the catalogs in Pricebook › Catalogs and from your price book. Prices are shown only for parts in your price book.
Steps#
On a Working appointment, tap Scan to part in AI assists (or on a unit's Equipment screen, or My truck › Identify a part with no job).
Under What's in the photo? pick Data plate, Part label or Failed part.
Tap Take photo or Choose photo, and/or type in Model or part number and Rating (µF, amps, size…), for example "45/5 440V" or "40A 2 pole".
Tap Find parts. What it read shows the part type, ratings, a confidence and, for data plates, the age from the serial.
Under Matching parts each row shows why it matched, the price, N on your truck and N at <warehouse>.
To quote it: tick the part and any Price book tasks (for example Replace run capacitor), then tap Add to estimate. A new estimate is created on the job at price-book prices; edit it like any other.
To get it: tap Request part. In order, TradesWork: tells you it's already on your truck; or sends a restock request from the warehouse to your truck; or (for people who buy) creates a draft purchase order for review; or sends a parts request to the office in Tasks.
Settings that change this#
Settings › AI › AI assists › Scan to part (on/off, daily limit).
Pricebook › Catalogs: confirmed catalog links decide which catalog rows have a price.
Inventory: your truck and its warehouse decide what "on your truck" and restocks mean.
Tips#
For capacitors, the rating is what matters: typing "45/5" finds dual run capacitors of that rating.
From My truck nothing is stored on a job; the photo is read and not kept.
Troubleshooting#
"Not in your price book yet" → the catalog item isn't linked to a price-book item → request it; the office can link it in Pricebook › Catalogs.
"Needs details" on a scan → AI isn't connected → type the model or rating.
A low-confidence read → check the characters against the part before ordering.
FAQ#
Q: Can it place an order with the supplier? No. At most it creates a draft PO that someone in the office reviews and sends.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
Like searching the pricebook and inventory from the mobile app, but starting from a photo. Draft POs land in TradesWork Purchasing, parts requests in Tasks.
