Overview#

The field app speaks English or Spanish. By default it follows your phone's language, and you can pick one yourself in Account. It also changes a few words to fit your business: residential companies say Customer and Location; commercial companies say Client and Job site. Words like Job, Appointment and Estimate follow your office look, so a company using the Jobber-style look sees Visit and Quote on the phone too.

Before you start#

  • Anyone who uses the field app can change their own language and terminology. These choices are saved on that phone only and stay after you sign out.

  • The company default terminology is set by owners and admins in Settings › Integrations › Mobile (needs settings.manage).

  • Your office look is chosen in Settings › Your Account › Appearance (the Look and feel page) in the office app.

Steps#

Change the language#

  1. On Today, tap Account in the top right.

  2. Under Language, tap Device, English or Español.

    • Device follows your phone's language setting: Spanish if the phone is set to Spanish, English for anything else.

  3. The app changes right away. Dates, times and month names follow the language too.

  4. Read the hint: "What customers and the office typed stays as they wrote it."

Change residential or commercial wording#

  1. In Account, find Terminology.

  2. Tap Company default, Residential or Commercial.

    • Residential says Customer and Location.

    • Commercial says Client and Job site (in Spanish: Cuenta and Sitio de trabajo).

  3. The hint under it shows your company's default, for example "Company default: Residential."

See where other words come from#

  1. In Account › Terminology, read: "Other words (Jobs, Appointments, Estimates) follow your office look. Change it in the office app under Look and feel."

  2. The field app uses the same nouns as your office look:

    • Familiar to ServiceTitan users (default): Job, Appointment, Estimate, Membership, Technician.

    • Familiar to Jobber users: Visit instead of Appointment, Quote instead of Estimate, Client and Property for residential wording, Team member instead of Technician.

    • Familiar to Housecall Pro users: Address instead of Location, Service plan instead of Membership, Employee instead of Technician.

    • Familiar to FieldEdge users: Work order instead of Job, Quote instead of Estimate, Service agreement instead of Membership.

  3. To change it, sign in to the office app, open Settings › Your Account › Appearance, and pick a look. The phone picks it up the next time it refreshes your account.

Set the company default (owners and admins)#

  1. In the office app, go to Settings › Integrations › Mobile. The page is titled Field app.

  2. Under Business terminology, choose Residential or Commercial.

  3. Click Save. Technicians on Company default get the new words. Anyone who picked their own keeps it.

Settings that change this#

  • Account › Language and Account › Terminology on each phone.

  • Settings › Integrations › Mobile › Business terminology: the company default.

  • Settings › Your Account › Appearance: the office look, which sets Job / Appointment / Estimate / Invoice / Membership / Technician words in both the office and the field app.

  • Settings › People › Payroll › Time codes: built-in time codes are translated; codes you rename or add show exactly as typed.

Tips#

  • Set a Spanish-speaking tech's phone to Español once. The customer screens (presenting options, signing, joining a membership) then speak to the homeowner in formal Spanish ("usted").

  • Commercial wording wins over the office look for customer and location words. With residential wording, the look's own words apply (for example Client and Property in the Jobber-style look).

Troubleshooting#

  • Some text is still in English after switching to Español → it was typed by the office or a customer (names, notes, job summaries, pricebook items, form questions, custom time codes), or it's a message from the server (for example why an AI tool is off, or why a change was turned down) → these show as written. Only the app's own words are translated.

  • The words didn't change after the office changed the look → pull down to refresh on Today, or reopen the app with signal.

  • Spanish customer but English tech → the language is per phone. Switch to Español while presenting, then switch back.

FAQ#

Which languages are supported? English and Spanish.

Does changing my phone's language change other techs' phones? No. Language, terminology, appearance and photo quality are saved on your phone only.

Can I translate my pricebook? Not in the app. Pricebook items show as the office typed them.

Coming from ServiceTitan#

  • ServiceTitan's mobile app follows the device language. TradesWork does the same with Device, and lets each tech override it.

  • Different: residential or commercial wording, and the office look, change the nouns the app uses. With the default look, words match ServiceTitan's (Job, Appointment, Estimate, Membership).
