Overview#
A kit is a saved set of Good, Better and Best options for a common job, like "No heat" or "Water heater replacement". Each option is a list of pricebook items with quantities. When someone uses a kit, TradesWork fills the estimate options with today's published prices. Kits work in the office on a job page and in the field app, including offline.
Proposal templates (Pricebook › Proposal Templates) build on the same idea with more selling detail. They are covered briefly at the end.
Before you start#
Everyone with pricebook.read can see the kit list (all roles).
Creating and editing kits needs pricebook.write: owners and admins only.
Using a kit on a job needs pricebook.read and estimates.write: owners, admins, dispatchers and technicians.
Build the items first. A kit can only use active pricebook items.
Steps#
See your kits#
Go to Pricebook › Estimate Templates, or click the Kits tab on the pricebook page.
Each kit card shows the name, its job type (or "Any job type"), an Inactive badge if it's turned off, and each tier with its option name and subtotal at current published prices.
Create a kit#
Click New kit.
Fill in the top card:
Name (required): 2 to 80 characters, for example "No heat". Kit names must be unique.
Job type: the job type this kit is for, or Any.
Category: optional, for your own organization.
Notes for the team: internal notes.
Active: on by default.
Fill in the Good, Better and Best cards. For each tier you want:
Option name: what the customer sees, for example "Repair" or "Repair + 2-year protection".
What the customer gets: a short summary.
Pick up to 8 items and set each quantity (default 1). Only active items are listed, with their current price. Leave a tier completely empty to skip it.
Click Save kit. You'll see "Kit saved. Technicians see it on their next sync."
Edit a kit#
On the kit list, click the kit's name.
Change what you need and click Save kit, or Cancel to leave without saving. To retire a kit, untick Active and save.
Start an estimate from a kit in the office#
Open the job and go to its estimate section.
Under Start from a kit, choose a kit from Choose a kit…. Each choice shows the kit name, the job type in brackets, and each tier's price, for example "Good $389.00 · Better $649.00 · Best $1,240.00".
Click Create options. TradesWork creates the Good, Better and Best estimates on the job at today's published prices.
Adjust the estimates as usual before presenting them. The Start from a kit box only appears when you have at least one active kit with active items.
Start an estimate from a kit in the field app#
On the estimate screen, technicians see Start from a kit with a card per kit. Kits that match the job's type are listed first. Tapping a kit fills the options with today's published prices. The hint reads "Fills the options with today's published prices. You can change anything before creating." Kits are cached on the phone and work offline.
Proposal templates#
Pricebook › Proposal Templates opens the Proposals page. Its tabs are Templates, Rebate programs, Brochures & spec sheets and Suggested add-ons.
A proposal template has a Name, Job type, Notes for the team and up to four options. Each option can have items, a What the customer gets summary, Energy savings / year ($) with How it's estimated, Rebates and Brochures & spec sheets. One option can be marked Recommended.
Anyone with pricebook.read can see templates. Creating and editing needs proposals.manage (owners, admins and dispatchers).
To turn a kit into a template, use Start from a pricebook kit, pick the kit and click Create template. Then add summaries, rebates and brochures and click Save template.
Settings that change this#
Pricebook › Services & Materials: making an item inactive removes it from kits in use. A tier with no active items left is skipped, and a kit with no tiers left is hidden.
Pricebook › Pricing Builder: kit prices follow the published book, so publishing new prices changes what kits quote next time.
Tips#
Build kits for your top five call reasons first.
Keep the Good option a true fix, not a teaser. Customers trust options that all solve the problem.
Price changes don't require editing kits. Kits always use the latest published prices.
Troubleshooting#
"Name the kit" or "There's already a kit called X." Give the kit a unique name of at least 2 characters.
"Add at least one item." A tier with an option name needs at least one item. Clear the name to skip the tier.
"That kit has no active items." Every item in the kit is inactive. Edit the kit or reactivate the items.
Start from a kit doesn't show on the job. You need estimate permission, and at least one active kit with active items.
A technician doesn't see a new kit. They need to sync. Kits reach phones on the next sync.
FAQ#
Q: Do kits store prices? No. Kits store items and quantities. Prices come from the published pricebook when the kit is used, and are then copied into the estimate.
Q: Can a kit have only one option? Yes. Fill in just one tier.
Q: What's the difference between a kit and a proposal template? A kit is a quick Good, Better, Best list. A proposal template adds selling detail: savings, rebates, brochures and a recommended option.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
Kits are TradesWork's version of ServiceTitan's Estimate Templates, found under Pricebook › Estimate Templates in the menu.
Different: kits always price from the latest published pricebook, so you never have to update template prices by hand.
Proposal templates cover the richer side of ServiceTitan's proposal and sales tools.
