Overview#
FieldEdge exports usually come through FieldEdge support or your admin rather than an export button. Once you have the files, TradesWork imports customers, locations, equipment, work orders (as job history), invoices, service agreements (as memberships) and your flat rate price book. Switch on the FieldEdge-style look so the dispatch board comes first and jobs are called work orders.
Before you start#
In TradesWork you need the Owner or Admin role.
Ask FieldEdge support (or your FieldEdge admin) for CSV or Excel exports of: Customers, Locations, Equipment, Work orders, Invoices, Service agreements and the Flat rate price book. Allow a few days.
A computer. Up to 50 MB per drop.
Steps#
Open Settings › Tools › Import / Export Data and press FieldEdge in the row of source buttons. The page becomes Switch from FieldEdge.
Read Exporting from FieldEdge on the right; it lists the files to request.
When the files arrive, drag them onto Drop your FieldEdge exports here: a ZIP is fine, or press Choose files.
Check What we found. Exports from support can have different column names; answer This file is a… and confirm the columns where asked. See Fix import problems: column mapping, re-drops and duplicates.
Look at Preview: your data in TradesWork.
Choose Import into your company or Try it in a separate sandbox company first, then press Import.
When it finishes, review your customers and price book, and download any rows that couldn't be imported with Download as CSV.
Settings that change this#
Settings › Your Account › Appearance: choose Familiar to FieldEdge users.
Settings › Operations › Memberships: set billing for imported agreements before they renew.
Tips#
Drop locations and equipment together so equipment links to the right address by location id.
Member prices from the flat rate price book are read when the column is present.
Re-dropping newer exports later updates the same records.
Troubleshooting#
Equipment didn't link → equipment needs a location id or an address that matches a location. → Drop the locations file in the same go.
Work orders imported without a customer → the work orders file lacks the customer id. → Ask FieldEdge for the export with customer ids included.
Agreements imported but nobody is billed → by design: imported memberships don't bill in TradesWork until you switch billing over.
FAQ#
Why do I need FieldEdge support? FieldEdge's exports usually come through support, and menu paths vary by version.
Does TradesWork use FieldEdge's API? No. TradesWork reads the exports you're entitled to.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
Not coming from ServiceTitan? TradesWork uses ServiceTitan's words by default: Job instead of Work order, Membership instead of Service agreement, Estimate instead of Quote. The FieldEdge-style look keeps your words; the data underneath is the same.
