Overview#
You can bring your Housecall Pro data into TradesWork from Housecall Pro's own CSV exports: customers with their service address, job history, invoices with paid amounts, your price book and service plans (as memberships). TradesWork reads the files you export; it never logs in to Housecall Pro. Want TradesWork to feel familiar? Switch on the Housecall Pro-style look so menus say Customers, Jobs, Estimates, Leads and Invoices, and memberships are called service plans.
Before you start#
In TradesWork you need the Owner or Admin role.
A Housecall Pro login that can export lists.
A computer. Files can be CSV, Excel or a ZIP, up to 50 MB per drop.
Steps#
Open Settings › Tools › Import / Export Data and press Housecall Pro in the row of source buttons. The page becomes Switch from Housecall Pro.
Follow Exporting from Housecall Pro on the right. Menu names can differ by plan and version:
Customers: Customers › Actions › Export.
Jobs: Jobs › Actions › Export.
Price book: Price book › Services and Materials › Export.
Invoices: Housecall Pro has no bulk invoice export. Open a report that lists invoices, drill down and use its Export, or connect QuickBooks so invoice history comes from your books.
Service plans: there's no bulk export (plans print one at a time). Ask Housecall Pro Support in writing for a service plan export, then drop the file they send.
Drag all the files onto Drop your Housecall Pro exports here: a ZIP is fine, or press Choose files.
Check What we found. If a file isn't recognized or TradesWork isn't sure, answer This file is a… and confirm the columns. See Fix import problems: column mapping, re-drops and duplicates.
Look at Preview: your data in TradesWork. Nothing is saved yet.
Choose Import into your company or Try it in a separate sandbox company first, then press Import.
When it finishes, press See your customers or See your price book. Download any rows that couldn't be imported with Download as CSV, fix them and drop again.
Settings that change this#
Settings › Your Account › Appearance: choose Familiar to Housecall Pro users for yourself or as the company default.
Settings › Operations › Memberships: set up billing for imported service plans before they renew.
Settings › Integrations › Payment Processing: connect Stripe so customers can pay on invoices.
Tips#
Export jobs for All time so your job history is complete.
Re-dropping newer exports later updates the same records; nothing is duplicated. That makes a side-by-side week easy.
Invoices come across with their paid amounts, recorded as payments marked "Imported from" the source, so balances match.
Troubleshooting#
Jobs or invoices don't link to customers → the files use different customer names or ids. → Drop the customer export in the same go, and keep the customer id column in each file.
A file shows "Not recognized" → its columns don't match what TradesWork expects. → Choose what the file is under This file is a… and map the columns.
Service plans imported but nobody is billed → by design. → Imported memberships don't bill in TradesWork until you switch billing over in membership settings.
FAQ#
Does equipment come across? Not from Housecall Pro's standard exports. Add equipment by hand or with a spreadsheet.
What about photos and attachments? They stay in Housecall Pro. Download any you need before you cancel.
Does TradesWork use Housecall Pro's API? No. TradesWork reads the exports you're always entitled to.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
Not coming from ServiceTitan? That's fine. TradesWork uses ServiceTitan's words by default (for example Membership instead of Service plan, Location instead of Address). The Housecall Pro-style look renames them for you; the data underneath is the same.
