Overview#
Members get a discount on repairs. In TradesWork that discount comes from the membership plan's Repair discount (%) and is applied to the invoice automatically as its own clearly labeled line, for example "Comfort Club member discount −15%". Estimates and the pricebook show member prices next to regular prices, so customers can see what membership saves them before they decide.
Before you start#
The discount comes from plans set up in Settings › Operations › Memberships (owners and admins).
Per-item member prices are set on pricebook items (needs pricebook.write).
The discount applies only while the membership is Active and today falls within its term, at the job's address.
Steps#
Set the plan discount#
Go to Settings › Operations › Memberships and edit the plan.
Set Repair discount (%), for example 15. Enter 0 for no discount.
Click Save plan.
How the invoice discount is applied#
When an invoice is created or changed, TradesWork checks the job's address for an active membership with a repair discount.
If there is one, the invoice gets one discount line: "[plan] member discount −[percent]". If the address has more than one qualifying plan, the biggest discount wins.
The discount applies to service lines only.
These lines are never discounted: materials, equipment, the membership fee itself, monthly membership dues, finance charges and extended warranties.
If the membership is canceled or expires before the invoice is paid, the discount line is removed the next time the invoice is updated.
Paid and void invoices keep the discount they had.
Show member prices on estimates (field)#
In the Field app, when a technician adds items from the pricebook, items with a member price show "Member $X" under the regular price.
When presenting options to a member, each option shows the member total next to the regular total and the savings.
When a technician sells a membership on the job, the discount applies to that visit's repairs right away.
Set a member price on a pricebook item#
Go to Pricebook › Services & Materials and open the item.
Under Pricing, choose Member price:
From membership plans: the default. Service items get the best active plan's repair discount (the dropdown shows it, for example "15% off services", or "no plans").
Percent off: enter a percentage in Member % off or member price.
Fixed member price: enter a dollar amount in the same field. It can't be higher than the regular price.
No member price: hide member pricing for this item.
Save the item. The item page shows the result in its Member price row.
Settings that change this#
Settings › Operations › Memberships: each plan's Repair discount (%) and whether it's Offered for sale.
Pricebook › Services & Materials (item page): the item's Member price setting.
Tips#
Keep it simple: one percentage per plan covers most shops. Use fixed member prices only for featured services, like a member drain-cleaning price.
Members love seeing the savings. Present options in the Field app so the member total shows side by side.
Because the discount is its own invoice line, your reports show revenue before and after member discounts clearly.
Troubleshooting#
The invoice has no member discount. → The membership isn't active yet ("Starts later"), it's at a different address, it expired, or the plan's discount is 0. → Check the customer's Memberships card.
Materials weren't discounted. → By design, the plan discount covers service lines only. → Use a fixed member price on the material item if you want a member price shown for it.
The member price in the pricebook doesn't match the invoice. → The invoice always uses the plan's percentage on service lines. Pricebook member prices are what estimates and the item picker show. → Keep item member prices on From membership plans if you want them to match exactly.
A paid invoice didn't update after the customer joined. → Closed invoices keep their discounts. → Apply a credit or adjust a new invoice instead.
FAQ#
Q: Can a customer stack two plan discounts? No. One discount line per invoice, using the best qualifying plan at the job's address.
Q: Is tax calculated before or after the discount? Totals are computed with the discount applied to the eligible lines, then tax on the taxable result.
Q: Is the membership fee discounted when sold on a job? No. Membership fees and dues are excluded.
Coming from ServiceTitan#
Same: members get discounted pricing on repairs, and member prices show during the sale.
Different: instead of separate member price lists, the discount is one percentage per plan applied as an explicit invoice line. Per-item member prices are optional overrides on the pricebook item.
Where it lived: ServiceTitan membership type discounts and pricebook member pricing.
