Overview#

The Sales view is the version of TradesWork Field built for selling in the home. It opens for people with the Sales rep or Sales manager role. It is made for an iPad (the day and the visit sit side by side in landscape) and works on a phone too. You see today's sales appointments with drive time, walk the home and capture what you find, build good / better / best options on the spot with rebates and monthly payments, present them and get the signature. A sale hands off to the install job; anything not sold goes to your follow-up list with reminders and a one-tap resend.

Before you start#

  • Role: an Owner or Admin gives you the Sales rep (comfort advisor) or Sales manager (sales director) role in Settings › People › Employees & Role Permissions. See Roles and permissions explained.

  • Appointments: the office books your sales calls as appointments and assigns them to you on the dispatch board, like any technician visit. You only see appointments you're assigned to.

  • Proposal templates: the proposal builder uses your company's proposal templates (built from kits, supplier catalogs and the price book). See Estimate templates, kits and proposal templates.

  • Monthly payments: they show only when your company turned on financing with at least one plan (Settings › Financing). See Customer financing setup.

  • Goal: your monthly sales goal is set by an Owner or Admin in Settings › People › Employees & Role Permissions (the App view column). Without one, the app says "No monthly goal set" instead of inventing a number.

  • App: open TradesWork Field (see Get the TradesWork Field app). People who can use more than one view can switch; see Switching app views.

Steps#

See your day#

  1. Open TradesWork Field. Salespeople land on Today in the Sales view.

  2. The top card is your next visit (or In the home now while you're working one): the arrival window, customer, what they want, the address and About N min drive when the app already knows where you are. Tap Open visit (or Continue visit), the next status button (Start driving, Arrived, start work), the navigate arrow or the phone.

  3. Below it: Sold this month against your goal, your Close rate (30 days), Open pipeline and Reminders due (tap it to open follow-up), the route for the day, Sales appointments and New leads for you (leads the office assigned to you that have no proposal yet).

  4. On an iPad in landscape, tap an appointment in the list to open the visit beside it.

Work the visit#

Open a visit. Under the customer card (with the status bar: Dispatched, En route, Working, Done) a Next card always shows the one thing to do now, for example Next · step 4 of 5 · Proposal, with a big button. The five steps below are in the order you work the home; each one shows a check when it's done.

  1. Arrive: use the button at the bottom (Start driving, then Arrived, start work). The status bar shows where you are.

  2. Walkthrough: tap Start (or Edit).

    1. Under The home, enter Conditioned square feet, Stories, Bedrooms, Year built, and pick Insulation, Windows and Ductwork. Add the Electrical panel (amps).

    2. Under Load, enter Cooling (tons) and Heating (BTU/h). Once you enter the square feet, the app shows a rule-of-thumb starting point (for example "about 4 tons"); tap Use 4 tons to accept it. It's a starting point, not a load calculation.

    3. Under Rooms and equipment, tap Add room for each room you walk. Name it, tap Room type to pick the kind of room (a popover on iPad, a sheet on a phone), tap the Comfort problem (Too hot, Too cold, Drafty…), type the equipment in it (for example "Furnace") and a note.

    4. Tap Photos tagged … on a room to take photos already named with the room and equipment (for example "Basement · Furnace").

    5. Pick What matters to them (comfort, lower bills, upfront price, quiet, air quality, reliability, smart home) and add Notes.

    6. Tap Save walkthrough. With no signal it's saved on the device and syncs later.

  3. Photos: tap Shot list. The guided shot list walks you through the photos the office wants on every sales call (by default: both data plates, the outdoor and indoor units, flue / venting, filter rack, thermostat, electrical disconnect, ductwork and line set). The progress shows as 6 of 10 shots on the step.

    1. Line the unit up with the dashed outline and tap the round shutter (or Library to pick a photo you already took).

    2. On the review, tap Mark up to draw arrows and circles (on iPad the markup opens straight away, ready for Apple Pencil), or Retake.

    3. To show it to the customer, switch on Mark as finding, pick Good, Fair or Poor and write One line for the customer (or tap Dictate; dictation needs signal).

    4. Tap Use photo. It's captioned with the shot's name and saved through the offline queue. After a data plate, tap Scan plate to add the unit to the customer's equipment.

    5. Can't take one? Tap Skip and pick No access, Not on this system or Customer declined. Skipped shots count as handled. Free capture next to it opens the regular camera for anything else. See Photos and markup.

  4. Existing equipment: tap Scan data plate to read the unit's plate and save it to the customer's equipment, or Add by hand. See Scan equipment data plates.

  5. Your home today (findings): below the steps, pick what the customer sees first, before any price. The app suggests findings from the visit (equipment past three quarters of its typical life, rooms with a comfort problem, worn ductwork): tap Add or Add all. Tap New finding to write your own. Tap a finding to change its words, its condition (Good, Fair, Poor), its photos and Fixed by (every option, or only some). Use the arrows to set the order and the eye to hide one from the customer. Changes save on the device and sync.

  6. Proposal: tap Build proposal. The options come first.

    1. On a phone, the line at the top shows what the proposal is built on (Replacing …, the template, the install plan). Tap it to change Replacing, Template or the Install plan (Install days, Crew size, Permit required).

    2. On an iPad, the setup sits on the left until a template is picked, then folds into a narrow rail so the three options get the width. Tap the rail to open it again (Hide setup folds it).

    3. Each option shows, in the same order on every card: the monthly payment ("$92.19/mo") with the cash price and the price after rebates, Includes, Add-ons and Protection plans. The financing terms are one line under the cards.

    4. Tap Recommend on the option you recommend for this home and fill in Why this one for this home? (one line, for example "Your upstairs runs hot: two stages even it out"). The customer sees it as Recommended for your home. Create and present stays off until the reason is filled in.

    5. Tap Create and present. This needs signal. With no signal, tap Pick items to build options from the price book instead (that works offline).

  7. Present and sign: the hand-over screen opens. Pick the customer's language, tap Start presentation and hand over the iPad: the screen is locked to the presentation until you hold the lock and confirm it's you. See Present mode: hand the iPad to the customer.

  8. Sold: the visit shows Sold $…. For a replacement proposal, the install job is created: the office schedules the crew, orders the equipment and tracks the permit. See Replacement proposals.

  9. Not sold yet: the visit shows Resend proposal link, Remind me and Add note.

  10. Finish visit: tap Finish visit, choose Done (sold or closed) or Needs follow-up, and add a summary for the office (left blank, it's written from what you did).

Everything else on the appointment is below the steps: proposals, financing applications, memberships, photos, notes and in-home recording. Open the full appointment shows the technician screen.

Follow up#

  1. Tap Follow-up in the tab bar (the left rail on an iPad).

  2. Filter with All, Reminders due or Opened the link (the customer opened the options page).

  3. Tap a proposal to see its options, value, age, reminder and automatic follow-up texts. Then:

    • Resend proposal link: texts "your options are ready" with the customer's link. If the text can't go out (texting isn't set up, or the customer can't receive texts), the app says so and offers Share the link from your phone. It never says "sent" when it wasn't.

    • Remind me: pick Tomorrow, In 3 days, Next week or In 2 weeks, and Call, Text or Visit, then Save reminder.

    • Add note: what they said, who decides, what's next. Reminders and notes save with no signal and sync later.

Check your numbers#

Tap My numbers. Pick Week, Month, Quarter or Year. You see sold against your goal, Close rate, Average sale, Won / lost, Open pipeline, Sold, last 6 months, and My pay for the current pay period (tap it for the line-by-line detail).

Sales managers: the team#

  1. Tap Team. Pick the period.

  2. Team sold, the team Close rate and Open pipeline are at the top. The Leaderboard ranks reps by sold, then close rate, with a goal bar, open proposals, visits today and pay this period.

  3. Tap a rep to see their day (appointments, read only) and their numbers. On an iPad it opens beside the list.

  4. In Follow-up, switch Mine / Team to see the team's open proposals. Only the rep who owns a proposal works it.

Settings that change this#

  • Settings › People › Employees & Role Permissions: the Sales rep and Sales manager roles, each person's App view and Monthly goal.

  • Settings › Financing: financing on/off, plans (monthly payments) and extended-warranty plans.

  • Price book › Proposal Templates and Kits: what the proposal builder offers. Suggested add-ons come from the price book's upsells.

  • Settings › Follow-up: the automatic follow-up texts after a proposal goes out.

  • Settings › Field app › Sales presentation: option order (Good → Best or Best → Good), which card phones open on, whether Most popular may show, and the photo shot lists (company default and per job type). See Sales presentation settings.

  • Proposal templates › Compare view: comfort, efficiency, sound, warranty, smart thermostat, energy cost and a product video per option, shown in the customer's Compare view.

Tips#

  • Turn the iPad sideways: the day sits on the left and the visit on the right, and the proposal builder shows good, better and best side by side.

  • Fill in the walkthrough while you walk; it saves the whole thing when you tap Save walkthrough, signal or not.

  • Lead with the monthly payment: it's the first number on each option when financing is on.

Troubleshooting#

  • "The Sales view is for salespeople" → your role doesn't include selling → ask an Owner or Admin for the Sales rep role, or switch views in Account.

  • No sales appointments → nothing is assigned to you today → the office assigns sales calls on the dispatch board.

  • "Pick a template" in the proposal builder → your company has no active proposal templates → ask the office to create one, or tap Pick items.

  • No monthly payments → financing is off or has no plans → see Settings › Financing.

  • Create and present is greyed out → no signal, or the recommended option has no reason yet → fill in Why this one for this home?, move to signal, or use Pick items to build offline.

  • The shot list shows the default shots → the office hasn't set a list for this job type → Settings › Field app › Sales presentation.

  • No Dictate button → speech to text isn't on for your company → type the line.

  • A finding's photo doesn't show yet → the photo is still waiting to upload → it appears once the device has signal.

  • "The text didn't go out" after Resend → texting isn't set up or the customer opted out → tap Share the link.

  • My pay says "No commission plan yet" → no pay plan is assigned to you → the office assigns plans in Performance Pay.

FAQ#

Can a sales rep see other reps' customers or jobs? They can look up customers (to find and add them), but they only see appointments and jobs they're assigned to. Someone else's job looks like it doesn't exist.

Does the Sales view work offline? Your day, each visit and your follow-up list stay on the device. The walkthrough, photos, notes, reminders, status changes and options built with Pick items save offline and sync later. Saving a template proposal and resending a link need signal.

Is the load suggestion a Manual J? No. It's a rule of thumb (roughly one ton per 450 to 650 square feet depending on insulation) to start the conversation. Enter the number you settle on.

Do sales reps cost a seat? Today only technicians are billed seats.

Can I reorder good / better / best? Yes, for the whole company: Settings › Field app › Sales presentation › Option order. The phone opens on the recommended card unless the office changes it.

When does "Most popular" show? Only when your own customers chose that option most: at least 20 sales of the same proposal template in the last 90 days, with one clear favourite. Otherwise it never shows, and the office can turn it off.

Coming from ServiceTitan#

  • Same: sales calls are appointments assigned to a person; options are good / better / best from templates with rebates and financing; the customer signs on the device; unsold estimates go to follow-up.

  • Different: there's no separate sales app. The same TradesWork Field app opens in the Sales view for salespeople, and the walkthrough (rooms, load, priorities) is built in. Follow-up lives in the same app with one-tap resend and reminders.

  • Findings: ServiceTitan's Present Proposal has a Findings tab with a condition rating; here it's Your home today, the first page of the presentation, built from the walkthrough, the equipment and the shot list.

  • Where it lived: ServiceTitan Mobile and the Sales Pro add-on (proposals and follow-up), and Follow Ups in the office.
